Cropping Tobacco
![]() |
In Cropping Tobacco,
about four or five leaves are removed from the bottom of each plant. The
bottom leaves will mature first. As the plant grows, and with each cropping
(usually four), the leaf removal progresses up the stalk of the plant.
The leaves are then placed in the drag and the old mule stands ready to
pull the drag of tobacco to the barn. Cropping tobacco is back-breaking
work that requires its workers to endure the heat and humidity of summer. |
